Peter O'Brien was my very best friend for the last 11 years.
When he moved in as my next door neighbor in 1990, we became friends right away. In 1993, I hired him as the Vice-President of my then 1-year old company CompuClub.
For the next 10 years (interrupted by his move to California and then to Pennsylvania for a total of 2 years), we shared all the ups and downs of a new small business. Anybody who saw us work together would agree on one thing: there was chemistry between us!
When his son Nicholas was born, my daughter Vanessa and my son Raphael adopted him as their best friend.
When Peter moved to California, where his wife had obtained a new job, I gave him as a parting gift my personal credit card number with a note: "to be used any time, preferably soon, to buy a one-way return ticket to Maryland." He kept the note, and came back less than 2 years later.
Peter was a great teacher. But not just a great computer teacher. He taught me so many things about family that I will be forever grateful to him. He was more than a teacher to me. He was a role model.
Peter died on Friday, October 12, 2001, in a car accident on the stupid New Jersey turnpike. He was gonna be 41 on October 30. I did not have the time to say goodbye. Nobody did.
My heart goes out to his wife Faye, his son Nicholas, and his daughter Nasim. I miss him tremendously.

When Peter decided to come back in 2000, we exchanged a few jokes. See them here.
My friendship with Peter was full of anecdotes, most funny, some touching. I have posted many here. If you knew Peter and he touched your life as well, I would like you to post a message here too. It will be a little bit like a book about Peter's life.
